My husband Tom and I headed up scenic Route 1A/1 to Kennebunkport, Maine for a 4-day respite from being in the house. I selected The White Barn Inn, the legendary, 4-star, getaway resort in Kennebunkport. My reasoning was simple: The White Barn is part of the esteemed Auberge Resorts Collection (think Mauna Lani in Hawaii, The Mayflower Inn in CT, and Solage in Napa). US News & World Report named it as their #1 Maine Resort (and Top 200 hotels in the US) and it’s on Conde Neste’s Readers Choice Awards list for 2020. It’s famous for white glove service and pampering. On top of that, Kennebunkport is just a charming and quaint little town with excellent waterfront restaurants like Allison’s and the Boathouse just a short walk away. What’s not to like, right?
Instead of staying at the main inn (which is just lovely), we decided to stay in one of their waterfront cottages called the Tern Cottage. It comes equipped with a bedroom, sitting area, kitchenette, wood burning fireplace and a stunning view of the pond with its beautiful, resident wildlife. Privacy galore and just a phone call away for a room service delivery or a ride over to the inn. Truth be told, this is the 2nd time that Tom and I have stayed in the cottage and it’s been just the most relaxing getaway. We soaked up new books, the warm fires, good wine, and R&R. I even ventured off to their spa and had an amazing massage that melted away the knots and left me feeling very chill.
One evening we headed over to The White Barn’s restaurant. It has a AAA 5 diamond award rating (the highest…) and we were fortunate to experience the luxury of a private dinner experience in their wine cellar. There was just the two of us but the room is also a wonderful option to rent for a special family or friend dinner as it seats a dozen. We were waited on by a private waitstaff and the service and food were just spectacular! The preparation and presentation were so worth it!
Although we didn’t take advantage of these, The White Barn offers unique experiences that you can reserve and pay for, including cooking classes, wine pairings, spa dates, and dogsled adventures. Well worth the extra cost to create special memories!
Now that the vaccines are flowing, I’m seeing a huge uptick in people traveling-particularly in the US. Everyone is more than ready to get on the move again. Reach out and I’ll help you customize a special getaway that’s right for you!
